Fabric Carnation Flower Tutorial

I love making fabric flowers. Now that my daughter's hair is getting long and thick it is hard to put alligator clips in it and have them stay all day. We use a lot of pony tail holders and headbands now. I thought it would be fun to add some matching bows to some of her plain pony tail holders and headbands. Here is a very simple and beautiful flower that you can use for a hair clips, headbands, homemade greeting cards, on top of a present, or to wear as a pin on a shirt.

First I start by cut out some felt squares.

Fold felt square in half.

Fold it in half again.

Cut a heart shape on the top none folded edges.

Make sure you round the side corners. Cut out about 6-8 of these.

Now you have a lovely flower shape.

Cut a felt circle.

Fold flower.

Cut off bottom point.

Hot glue to felt circle base.

I hold mine there for a few seconds and wait for the glue to harden.

Repeat with other flowers

Ta da!

Add desired clip or elastic. I cut out a smaller circle to add a pony tail holder or a stretchy head band

Here is a black one I made for myself.

Please feel free to comment.

  1. These are so great. Here in the Philippines it is the style to wear a headband with some type of decoration. Some stand up a little and some lay down flat on the hair. Very popular here.
